Help topic: Deals, explore & routes

  • How the deals page works

The deals page answers a simple question: where can I fly cheaply from here? It lists the lowest recently found fares from one departure city to destinations around the world.

    Where the deals come from

Deals are built from recent searches across our partners. They are refreshed through the day, so the list changes as fares move. Each deal is a real fare that was found recently, but it isn’t a live quote: the partner shows the live price before you pay.

    Choosing the departure city

The page starts from your nearest airport, or your home airport if you are signed in. To see deals from somewhere else:

    1. Find the Departing from picker at the top of the page.
    2. Type a city or airport and choose it from the suggestions.
    3. The deals update for that city.

This is handy if you live between two cities, or want to compare a nearby larger airport.

    Reading a deal

    • The destination and the lowest fare found, usually a return fare.
    • The travel dates the fare was found for, and the number of nights.
    • Whether it is direct or how many stops it has.
    • A badge such as Lowest for the cheapest deal, or Weekend for short trips.

Press a deal to see flights for those dates. If you have an account, use the heart on a deal to save the destination.

    Filters

When there are enough deals, chips above the list let you narrow them down. Only chips with matching deals appear:

    • Weekend breaks: short trips of a few nights.
    • Beaches and Culture & history: destinations known for each.
    • Direct only: no stops.
    • Under a budget: deals below a set price.

Choose All to see everything again.

Making the most of a deal

    1. Open the deal and check the flights and times on the results page.
    2. Use the nearby dates strip. Similar fares are often available a few days either side.
    3. Press View deal to see the live price on the partner’s site.
    4. Not ready? Set a price alert for the route.

    If this, then that

    • If the page says there are no recent deals from your airport, try a larger city nearby, or search any route directly.
    • If a filter shows “No deals of this type right now”, choose another filter or All.
    • If the deal’s price is gone when you open it, the fare probably sold out. Check nearby dates or other deals.
    • If the page shows deals from the wrong city, change it with the Departing from picker, or set your home airport in your profile.
    • If prices are marked as examples, the site is in preview mode and the prices are not real fares.

Deals move fast. Our guide on how to find cheap flights explains how to use deals alongside calendars and alerts.

  • Exploring destinations by region and budget

If you know your budget but not your destination, Explore is the place to start. It shows destinations you can reach from your airport, with the lowest recent fare for each, and lets you narrow them by region and price.

    How to use Explore

    1. Open Explore. It starts from your nearest airport, or your home airport if you are signed in.
    2. Choose a region with the chips at the top, or keep Everywhere.
    3. Drag the Budget slider to set the most you want to spend. Destinations above it are hidden.
    4. Browse the destination cards. Each shows the lowest recent fare from your airport.
    5. Press a destination to see flights or its route page.

    What the prices mean

Prices are the lowest recently found fares from your airport to each destination, in your currency. They come from recent searches and change through the day. The partner always shows the live price before you pay.

    Changing where you start

Explore uses your nearest airport, or your home airport when you are signed in.

    • To explore from another city every time: sign in and set your home airport in Profile.
    • To check one other city quickly: use the Departing from picker on the deals page, which lists the cheapest destinations from any city.

    Ideas for using Explore

    • “Somewhere warm, under my budget.” Pick a region you like, then lower the budget until the list is short.
    • “A cheap long weekend.” Set a low budget and look at nearby regions, then check the deals page for weekend breaks.
    • “Anywhere new.” Keep Everywhere, lower the budget step by step and see which places remain.

    From idea to booking

    1. Pick a destination and open it.
    2. On the route page, check the cheapest months to fly.
    3. Use the calendar to find a good day.
    4. Search the dates and compare flights.
    5. Press View deal to book on the partner’s site, or set a price alert if you want to wait.

    If this, then that

    • If you see “Nothing in this budget yet”, move the slider up or pick another region.
    • If a region has few destinations, we may have little recent price data from your airport for that region. Try a larger airport nearby.
    • If prices look higher than expected, check the currency in the header and remember fares vary a lot by month.
    • If the page starts from the wrong airport, your connection may appear to be somewhere else, for example on a VPN. Set a home airport.

  • Using route pages

Every route on Cheaplyfly has its own page, such as flights from one city to another. Route pages bring together what you need to plan a trip on that route before you pick exact dates.

How to find a route page

    • From popular routes on the home page and in the footer.
    • From links on the deals and explore pages.
    • From the price alert list in your dashboard, using See route.
    • From a search engine. Route pages are designed to be found when you search for a route.

What is on a route page

    Search box

At the top, a search box is already filled in with the route. Add dates and travelers to see flights.

    Cheapest months to fly

A chart of the lowest recently found return fare in each month. The cheapest month is highlighted. Tap a month to see that month in the calendar below.

Lowest fares for the best day

A calendar showing the lowest recent fare for each day of the chosen month. Pick a day and use See all flights for these dates to search it.

    Airports

The airports at each end of the route. Cities with several airports list them all, which helps you compare.

    Watch this route

A price alert box, so you can get an email when the fare drops.

    More trips

Other destinations from the same departure city, with their lowest fares.

    Questions about this route

Short answers to common questions, built from the data for this route.

    Destination pages

There are also pages for a destination on its own, such as cheap flights to a city. They show the cheapest months and fares to that city from your airport.

A good way to use a route page

    1. Look at the cheapest months chart and note the months you could travel.
    2. Tap one of those months and find the lowest days in the calendar.
    3. Search those dates and compare flights by Best and Cheapest.
    4. Book with the partner, or set an alert from the Watch this route box.

    If this, then that

    • If the page says there are no recent fares for this route, search your dates for live prices. Less popular routes have less price data.
    • If a month in the chart is empty, we have no recent price for it. It isn’t necessarily expensive or sold out.
    • If the prices are marked as examples, the site is in preview mode.
    • If the route page shows a different airport than you want, change the From or To field in the search box.

Route pages show general patterns. Our guide when to book flights explains how to read them alongside your own plans.

  • How fresh are prices on deals, explore and route pages?

Deals, Explore and route pages show prices before you have chosen exact dates. To do that, they use fares found recently in searches across our partners. This article explains what that means and how to get from a recent price to a live one.

    Recent prices, not live quotes

A recent price is a real fare that someone found on a partner’s site not long ago. We collect these, keep them up to date through the day, and show the lowest for each route, month or day.

This lets you browse many destinations and months quickly. The trade-off is that a recent price can change before you book.

Why a recent price can change

    • The cheapest seats sold out.
    • The airline changed its fares.
    • The fare was for specific dates, and you searched different ones.
    • The fare was for one adult, and you searched for more travelers.
    • Exchange rates moved, if the fare was found in another currency.

Turning a recent price into a live price

    1. Open the deal or pick the day on the calendar.
    2. Check the dates on the results page. Deals are tied to the dates they were found for.
    3. Look at the nearby dates strip for similar fares.
    4. Press View deal. The partner shows the live price and what is included.

    How often prices update

Prices are refreshed through the day. Pages may show a stored copy for a short while so they load quickly. If you come back later, you may see different prices.

    Example prices

Before a site is connected to its partner, it can show clearly labeled example prices so the design can be previewed. If you see a note saying prices are examples, they aren’t real fares.

    If this, then that

    • If a deal price is much lower than anything in the results, it was likely a short-lived fare. Set a price alert in case it returns.
    • If the live price is a little higher, it may still be a good fare. Compare with the route page’s cheapest months chart.
    • If the live price is lower, a new fare has appeared since our price was found.
    • If you see the same deal for days, the fare may be stable on that route. Check the live price before you decide.

Our guide to how flight search engines work explains recent and live prices in more depth.

  • Finding a trip when you are flexible

Being flexible is one of the best ways to pay less for flights. Cheaplyfly has several tools for flexible travelers. Here is how to combine them, depending on what you are flexible about.

    Flexible on where

    1. Open Explore and set your budget with the slider.
    2. Pick a region, or keep Everywhere.
    3. Check the deals page too. It lists the lowest recent fares from your airport and has filters for weekend breaks, beaches, culture and direct flights.
    4. Shortlist two or three destinations.

    Flexible on when

    1. Open the route page for your destination.
    2. Look at the cheapest months chart.
    3. Tap the cheapest month you could travel and find the lowest days in the calendar.
    4. Search those dates and use the nearby dates strip on the results page to fine-tune.

    Flexible on both

Start with Explore or deals to choose the place, then use the route page to choose the time. Set an alert for each shortlisted route, for a whole month, and let the alerts tell you which one drops first.

    Flexible on airports

    • Search a city rather than a single airport, to include all its airports.
    • Check deals from a larger city nearby with the Departing from picker.
    • Compare the cost and time of getting to each airport, not just the fare.

Our guide nearby airports and alternative routes has more ideas.

    Using alerts while you decide

    • Create a whole-month alert for each option. You can have several at once, up to the site’s limit.
    • Leave the target as Any drop at first, so you learn how prices move.
    • When you have decided, remove the alerts you no longer need and keep one for the trip you chose.

    Things to weigh beyond price

    • Total travel time, including connections.
    • Arrival times and how you get from the airport.
    • What the fare includes, especially bags.
    • Season at the destination: the cheapest month may be the rainiest or hottest.

    If this, then that

    • If every option looks expensive, look further ahead or at shoulder seasons.
    • If a great deal appears but your dates don’t fit, check whether the same route is cheap on nearby dates.
    • If you are traveling as a group, remember prices are per adult and seats at the lowest fare are limited.

Read peak, shoulder and off-season travel and flexible dates and price calendars for more.

  • Saving and sharing trips

Planning a trip often takes a few days and a few conversations. Cheaplyfly lets you save what you find and share it with others, so you don’t have to search again.

    1. Run a search.
    2. At the top of the results, press Save.
    3. A short message confirms it was saved. The button stays highlighted.

Saved searches keep the route, dates, travelers and cabin. Open one later from your dashboard to see current results.

    Saving a flight

Press the heart on any result card to save that flight. Press it again to remove it.

    Saving a destination

On the deals page, each deal has a heart too. It saves the destination from your departure city, so you can come back to it later.

    Where saved items go

Everything you save appears in the Saved tab of your dashboard, newest first. From there you can open or remove each item.

Prices in saved items are from when you saved them. Fares change, so open the item to see what it costs now.

    Do I need an account?

Yes. Saving needs a free account so your items are kept safely and follow you to other devices. If you press Save while signed out, we ask you to sign in and bring you back to the same page afterward.

    1. On the results page, press Share.
    2. On phones and devices that support it, your device’s share menu opens, so you can send the link by message or email.
    3. On other devices, the link is copied, and a message says “Link copied”. Paste it wherever you like.

The link opens the same search for whoever receives it. They don’t need an account.

    Sharing a route or deal

Route pages and destination pages have their own addresses. Copy the address from your browser to share them.

    Saved items vs price alerts

    • Saving keeps a trip so you can come back to it. It doesn’t watch the price.
    • A price alert watches the price and emails you when it drops.

For trips you are serious about, do both.

    If this, then that

    • If the heart doesn’t stay filled, check that you are signed in, then try again.
    • If a saved search shows no results, the dates may have passed. Open it and choose new dates.
    • If someone sees different prices from your shared link, fares may have changed, or they may be viewing in another currency.
    • If your saved list is getting long, remove trips you no longer need from the Saved tab.
